Members Show II

Washington Depot, CT

Members Show

Washington Depot, CT

When a non-profit small town art association holds a members show with a ten dollar entry fee, all are welcome. So the walls get packed with work, and the rooms at the opening get pretty full too. More later.

Blog Notes, WPII: on sabbatical

WPII will be taking a break for a while. The New England winter has finally caught up to my ability to find subjects for Pictures in Public. Since I don't have any indoor location projects going at the moment, we'll let WPII rest until the weather breaks.

Opening Reception

Washington Depot, CT

Another shot from an art association opening Saturday. With grab shots like these, editing takes on an even more important role than usual. To a certain extent, there's more conscious thought in the editing stage, deciding which pictures "work," than while shooting, where it's just observation and reaction.

Rules

Washington Depot, CT

Never have the main subject of your picture look straight into the camera. Unless it's a "portrait."

Never cut off people's body parts in your pictures, and don't leave extra empty space on the other side of the picture.

Always make sure the color balance in all parts of the picture is perfectly reconciled.

Those are rules. A good picture is something else. I like this picture. I don't like it because it breaks those rules, and likely many more. I like it because it works, and I don't pay any attention to rules when I make pictures.

Health Care Rally, continued

Waterbury, CT

As always you can click on pictures on this blog to see a larger version. Even so, one of the frustrations of posting in this blog medium is that only the overall look of a picture can really be seen. The information available just doesn't approach the experience you get with a real print held in your hand.

Meeting

Waterbury, CT

The twenty-five or so people who participated in the MoveOn.org rally in Waterbury on Tuesday gained access to the office of Congressman Chris Murphy where they met for nearly half an hour with a staff member who listened to their concerns and answered questions about Mr. Murphy's positions on several issues (the Congressman was in Washington).
